How do I import TXT files? (Pro)

1) Click on the Import button on the Entries page toolbar.
2) Click the Go button under the TXT option from the file format list.
3) Upload your file and click Import once successfully uploaded.

At the moment, you can import TXT files that have been exported from Penzu or Ohlife. In each of these files are multiple entries with dates, titles, and body text. You can download the sample TXT formatted files below.

If this isn’t clear, try exporting some entries from your journal page as TXT files to view the formatting. Or email us at support@penzu.com for help.

My searches aren’t showing any results!

If you think search isn’t working, chances are it is just because you haven’t given us time to index your entries. Our search indexer isn’t real-time, so if you create an entry it’s contents won’t be searchable right away.

Also, if you have any entries that are locked, those cannot be searched either. For security purposes, you must unlock your entries in order to search them.

Images are not imported at this time.

PDF exporting (which includes images), is sent to you via email in a secure way. You will get a link in that email to take you to a download page where the PDF can be downloaded. You must be logged in in order to download the PDF to ensure privacy.

PDF exports don’t include the pad formatting or background styles. An XML file doesn’t either, but allows more portability—XML files can be used to upload your Penzu entries to other services.

How do I search my saved entries?

To search your entries, visit your Entries page.

1. In the top right corner, you will notice a search box.

2. Enter your search term (or terms) and click on the “Go” button. Your results will appear below. To clear the search field, delete the words or letters in it or click on the “x” in the blue Search filter bar to display all of your entries again.

Picture 3

Search indexing isn’t in real-time, and can take up to a minute for our system to acknowledge certain words. For instance, if you write an entry at 8:01 pm that has the word “trip” in it, searching for “trip” may not yield any results until after 8:02 pm. Sometimes it’s faster (and sometimes slower), but this is something we’re constantly improving.

Note: We can’t search encrypted entries. For Pro users that have entries that have been locked with encryption, unfortunately we can’t search the contents of that entry until it has bee unlocked.

Why aren’t encrypted entries searchable? (Pro)

Once an entry is encrypted, the contents aren’t visible by anyone unless they have the encryption key. This includes us, and so we can search encrypted entries unless they are unlocked. The encryption key is made up of the user password and a random password we generate. To learn more, you can read more in the security section of this Help page.
