Journals

How do I open my journal?

To open your journal, simply click the journal’s title. By default, your journal is titled after your first name. For example, if you signed up with the name John Smith, your journal will be entitled “John’s Journal”.

What does Remember Password do when locking a journal or entry?

If you check the “Remember Password” box in the locking popup, upon re-locking you’ll never have to enter the password again. Just a single click and your entry will be locked!

Here is the new journal locking flow with Remember Password enabled:

1. Click the lock button next to the journal you want to protect:

lock1

2. Enter a password, hint, check “Remember Password” and then “Lock”:

3. Unlock the journal to gain access:

4. Upon re-locking, you’ll see a window like this and all you have to do is click “Lock”:

And that’s it! If you’d like to change the saved password, you can simply click “Enter a New Password” and start the process again. This works the same for entry locking as it does for journal locking (shown above).

I’ve locked my journal but forget the password!

If you’ve locked your journal and don’t remember what the password is (even though the hint should have helped you!) we can unlock it for you. But first make sure that you are using a supported browser (Chrome or Firefox) or if you’re stuck with Internet Explorer (IE) that your security settings aren’t set to high. Read more on how to change that here.

If you are using a supported browser and have forgotten your password, just email us at support(at)penzu(dot)com from the email address associated with your Penzu account and tell us which journal you would like unlocked.

If, however, you locked your journal with the encryption lock (Pro only), we cannot unlock it for you. If you still can’t remember that password, the only thing we can do is delete it. You can email us with a request to delete your journal and we can do that for you.

How do I lock my journal?

You can lock the entire contents of your journal with a password of your choosing. You can lock a journal with our Basic Lock or Encryption Lock (Pro users only). Follow these steps to lock your journal:

1. Click the “Lock” button next to the journal you wish to lock:

lock1

2. The lock popup will appear. Choose which lock you would like. If you choose Encryption Lock, you must be a Pro user. And if you decide to lock your journal with the Encryption Lock, if you lose your password, the journal will not be able to be unlocked!

Lock2

3. Enter a password (and a hint!), click the green “Lock” button and your journal will be locked! Once locked, you cannot open, edit, or delete the journal without the password!

Note: If you have locked entries inside a journal you are locking, they will not be affected. They will remain locked like before. If you are encrypting your journal and have encrypted entries in that journal, those entries will remain encrypted and will not be encrypted twice.

What is Journals?

Journals is an easy way for you to organize your entries. All accounts have at least one Journal in which entries are saved. Pro subscribers can create multiple journals and move entries between them. Every entry is saved in a journal and every account must have a journal.

What are Unclaimed Entries?

Penzu will sometimes create a new journal in your account called  “Unclaimed Entries”. This journal is a place to keep entries that haven’t been saved to one of your existing journals yet. This could happen for a variety of reasons but it’s mainly in the event that all of your journals were locked when trying to save an entry to your account.

If you don’t want entries in the “Unclaimed Journal”, simple move them to another unlocked journal by following the instructions found here. You can also delete the “Unclaimed Entries” journal whenever you want.

How do I change the date of a journal?

Currently, the date shown under each journal is the last date one of the entries in that journal was last edited or created. The date cannot be changed independently.

Can I email entries into a specific journal?

Penzu Pro users can send emails into their account via Penzu Post. Each journal is given a unique email address to which users can send email to. The address to each journal can be found on the Settings popup of each journal:

1. Click the “Settings” button for the journal in question:

JournalDelete1

2. Copy or click the email address in the popup and start sending email to your Penzu!
