How do I lock journals with Penzu Mobile? (Pro)
With all versions of Penzu Mobile, you can lock journals with the Basic or Encryption lock. On all devices, encrypted data is saved on our servers and never on the device. Ergo, locking with encryption requires that you are connected to the internet. Unlocking encrypted journals or entries also requires a connection since the entries need to be downloaded from the server at the time of unlocking.
iOS:
1. Navigate to the settings page (open any journal and click the Settings button on the tab bar).
2. Click the Lock Journal option.
3. Enter your password twice, a hint, and choose the type of encryption you want.
4. Once complete, the lock will be turned on.
Android App:
1. Navigate to the Journals page.
2. Press and hold the journal you would like to lock to reveal the context menu.
3. Choose the Lock Journal option.
4. Enter your password twice, a hint, and choose the type of encryption you want.
5. Click lock and the journal will be locked.
Alternatively, you can lock the journal from the Settings page.
Mobile Web App:
1. Navigate to the Settings page by clicking any journal and choosing “Settings” below.
2. Click the Lock Journal option.
3. Enter your password twice, a hint, and choose the type of encryption you want.
4. Once complete, the lock will be turned on.
Locking and unlocking journals can only be done while online.
How do I rename a journal with Penzu Mobile? (Pro)
iOS:
1. Navigate to the settings page (open any journal and click the Settings button on the tab bar).
2. Click the Rename Journal option.
3. Enter your desired new journal name and click Save.
Android App:
1. On the Journals page, find the journal you want to rename.
2. Press and hold the journal to reveal the context menu.
3. Select the Rename Journal option.
4. Enter your desired journal name and click Save.
Mobile Web App:
Unfortunately journals can’t be renamed from the mobile web app at this time.
Do I have to manually sync my journals on Penzu Mobile? (Pro)
Unfortunately, yes. If you’re using our iOS or Android apps, you have to manually sync any changes you have in order for them to appear in your account. We plan on adding auto-syncing down the road.
Our mobile web app, however, syncs as changes are made. Except if you’re on a Blackberry, which requires a manual save. W
Why won’t my inserted image show up on my mobile device? (Pro)
If you’ve inserted an image into an entry on our web app, it wont’ show up properly on our Android, iPhone, or iPad app properly. Since those devices don’t support rich text, you’ll need to “attach” the image for it to appear.
If, however, you are using our mobile web app, you can view images inserted into the body of entries in the View Mode (edit mode will remove them).
How do I lock the Penzu Mobile app with a passcode? (Pro)
With all mobile apps you can create a 4-digit PIN that locks the app.
iOS

2. Next to App Lock, swipe the “Off switch” to “On”.
3. Enter your PIN twice as instructed and app lock will be turned on.
4. Choose your desired “Lock After” time – the default setting is 10 minutes.
If you get locked out of your app because of a lost PIN code, just enter any PIN 10 times and you’ll be logged out automatically. If you get locked out while offline, you will need to go back online in order to access your account again.
How do I remove/delete a photo from an entry?
iOS
1. Navigate to the desired entry.
2. Click on the photo to reveal the photo view.
3. Click the “Remove” button to delete the photo from the entry.
Android App:
1. Navigate to the desired entry.
2. Click on the photo to reveal the photo view.
3. Click the menu hard-key to reveal the contextual menu.
4. Choose the “Remove Photo” option.
Mobile Web App:
1. Navigate to the desired entry.
2. Click on the photo to reveal the photo view.
3. Click the “Remove” button to delete the photo from the entry.
How do I insert photos with Penzu Mobile?
iOS
1. Navigate to the desired journal’s Pad.
2. Click the photo button on the pad (camera icon below the nav bar).
3. Choose a photo from your existing library or take a picture with the device camera (if available).
4. Click “Use” to insert the image into the pad.
Android App:
1. Navigate to the desired journal’s Pad.
2. Click the menu hard-key to reveal the contextual menu.
3. Choose the Insert Photo option.
4. Choose a photo from your existing library or take a picture with the device camera (if available).
Mobile Web App:
Photos cannot be inserted via the Mobile Web App at this time.
Penzu Mobile Web App won’t let me log in!
If you can’t login using Penzu Mobile on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, it’s probably because your cookie settings need to be changed. Follow the instructions below to fix this problem:

I’ve fogotten my mobile PIN and locked myself out!
If you’ve locked your app on your mobile device with a 4-digit PIN and can’t remember it, follow the below instructions to get back into the app:
iOS or Android App:
If you have previously synced your app with a Penzu Pro account, your data is safe! All you have to do is delete the Penzu app from your device and redownload it from the App Store or Android Market. Then login again and all journals will be downloaded.
However, if you’ve never upgraded to Penzu Pro, and never synced from your app to a Penzu account, you may have lost your entries. If you can’t remember the PIN, the only method is to remove the app from your device and redownload as well. But since you haven’t synced, all local device data will be wiped. This is an unfortunate circumstance, but for the utmost security, we can’t allow any access once the app is locked.
Mobile Web App
You can lock the Penzu mobile web app with a PIN, but since it’s always backed up, all you have to do is enter the PIN 10 times and you will be logged out. Login again and all your data will be there!
Penzu Mobile Web App won’t work offline on my iPad, iPhone, or iPod.
If you’re having trouble getting Penzu Mobile Web App to work while offline, please follow these steps:
1. Delete the icon from your Home Screen.
2. Go to your Safari settings and delete your cache, cookies, and databases if there are any.
3. Restart the device.
4. Go to Penzu.com, login, and re-add the app to your Home Screen.
5. Load the app from your Home Screen a few times.
6. Try accessing it offline again.
If this doesn’t work, you can also try to access Penzu from within the Safari browser while offline. We are currently working to fix this problem.
How do I add Penzu Mobile Web App as an icon on my Home Screen?
Penzu Mobile is a web app, but one that utilizes HTML 5 so that it can behave more like a native mobile application. If you would like to access Penzu from your phone’s home screen, here are instructions on how to do that for various devices:
iPhone, iPod, iPad
1. Open Safari and navigate to http://penzu.com/m
2. Login by entering your Penzu Pro username and password (you must be a Pro user to login).
3. Once logged in, click the “plus” icon (or “share” icon in iOS 4) and click “Add to Home Screen”
4. A popup will appear and prompt you to save the Penzu icon. Click “Add”.
5. You will see the icon on your home screen from which you can access your account, whether you are online or offline!
Android 2.1, 2.2
1. Open the browser and navigate to http://penzu.com/m
2. Login by entering your Penzu Pro username and password (you must be a Pro user to login).
3. Once logged in, click the “bookmark” icon.
4. The bookmarks screen will appear. If you press the “Add” button, the Penzu bookmark will be created.
5. Then, press and hold the Penzu bookmark (from the bookmarks screen) and a menu will appear. Choose “Add Shortcut to Home”.
6. The icon will appear on your home screen where you can access your Penzu account, whether you are online or offline!

How do I view entries with a specific tag with Penzu Mobile? (Pro)
Tagging is only available to Pro users on our Mobile Web App. To access this app, visit http://penzu.com from your phone’s browser and follow these steps:
1. To see all entries that have been tagged with a certain tag, click the tag button on the entries page toolbar.
2. Choose a tag from the dropdown menu or click a recent tag.
3. A results page will show you the entries that have been tagged. Click an entry to open and view it.
4. To exit the results page, click the “x” or close button on the purple tag filter bar.
How do I remove a tag from an entry with Penzu Mobile?
Tagging is only available to Pro users on our Mobile Web App. To access this app, visit http://penzu.com from your phone’s browser and follow these steps:
1. Open the entry you wish to remove the tag from.
2. Click the Tag button on the pad toolbar.
3. Click the red “Remove” button from the tag you wish to remove. Tags must be removed individually.
How do I add tags to an entry with Penzu Mobile? (Pro)
Tags can be added to entries with the Penzu Mobile Web App. To access the Web App, just visit http://penzu.com from your device browser and follow these steps:
1. Add a tag to an entry by clicking the Tag button on the pad toolbar.
2. Choose to add an entirely new tag, an existing tag, or both.
3. Once a tag is added, you will see them listed below.
How do I lock entries with Penzu Mobile?
At the moment, entries can only be locked on the Penzu Android App and the Penzu Mobile Web App.
Android App
1. Click on the journal which has the desired entry in it.
2. Once the entry is open, and you are on the pad, click the Menu button on the device. An option will be revealed to lock the entry.
3. Enter a password (at least 6 characters long), a hint, and choose the type of lock you would like to use (basic or Encrypted if Pro).
4. Click the green “Lock” button and your entry will be locked!
You can also lock entries from the Entries page by pressing and holding on the desired entries.
Mobile Web App
To access this app, visit http://penzu.com from your phone’s browser and follow these steps:
1. Click on the lock button on the pad toolbar. You will then be prompted to enter a password, a hint, and choose your desired locking method—basic or encrypted.
2. Once locked, the entry cannot be accessed until the correct password is entered.
Note: In offline mode entries can’t be locked or unlocked. We do this in order to preserve your security in the event that your phone is lost.
How do I delete entries on Penzu Mobile?
Unlocked entries can be deleted on all Mobile apps.
iOS App:
Entries cannot be deleted from the pad, but only from the Entries page.
1. Navigate to the desired journal’s Entries page.
2. Click the Edit button on the top right of the entries list.
3. Click the delete buttons next to the desired entries to remove them.
Alternatively, you can swipe across a row on the entries list to reveal the Delete button.
Android App:
Delete from Entries page:
1. Find the entry you would like to delete.
2. Press and hold on the row of the entry you want to delete.
3. Choose the “Delete Entry” option to remove the entry from your journal.
Delete from Pad:
1. Open the entry you want to delete.
2. Click the hard-key menu button to reveal the contextual menu.
3. Click the Delete Entry option to remove the open entry.
Mobile Web App:
1. Navigate to the desired journal’s Entries page.
2. Select the entries to be deleted by clicking the check box next to the title of the entry.
3. Once selected (highlighted yellow), click the delete icon (trash bin) on the toolbar. A notice should confirm your deletion.
Note: The entries that are deleted can be restored from the trash on the full web application.
How do I create an entry with Penzu Mobile?
Unlocked entries can be deleted on all Mobile apps.
iOS App:
New entries can only be created from the pad.
1. Navigate to the desired journal’s pad.
2. Click the new entry “plus” icon on the top right of the page.
Alternatively, on the iPad App, you can also create a new entry from the Entries list. Clicking the top row will create a new entry.
Android App:
On either the Pad, Entries, or Settings pages, you can create a new entry.
1. Navigate to the desired journal.
2. Click the menu hard-key to reveal the contextual menu.
3. Choose the “New Entry” option to create a new entry.
Mobile Web App:
1. From either the Pad or Entries page, you can create new entries.
2. Click the New Entry “plus” icon on the Pad or Entries toolbar.
Can I access Penzu Mobile when offline?
Yes! All devices (except for Blackberry at the moment) allow for offline access. iOS and Android apps can be used offline as expected.
Even our Mobile Web App works offline! Once you visit http://penzu.com/m while online, we download the application and entries to your device so that you can use it while offline.
There are two ways you can access Penzu Mobile when offline. You can either navigate back to http://penzu.com/m in your mobile browser, or, if you have a device that supports saving an icon to the home screen, click on the home screen icon.
Is Penzu Mobile secure?
Yes, Penzu Mobile is just as secure as the web application. We use SSL to encrypt all data transferred from your phone to our servers. Entries can be locked with encryption the same way they are locked on the web app.

What is Penzu Mobile?
Penzu Mobile is a web app that is designed to work on smart phones and other mobile devices. You can’t access it from Apple’s app store, but only by visiting http://penzu.com from your mobile web browser.
With Penzu Mobile, the functionality is limited, and meant to serve as a way to access, edit, and create entries while you are away from your computer. While more features will be added over time, certain functions are limited by the capabilities of the browser and your device.
